When you need extra sockets & points
Too few sockets, reliance on extension leads and adaptors, a new home office, new appliances, or a converted garage, loft or added room.
Spur, new circuit, or a dedicated supply?
Most extra sockets are added as a spur off the nearest ring or radial circuit — quick, tidy and typically £75–£150 per socket depending on the cable route and making good. There are limits: you can generally take one single or double socket from an unfused spur, so if you want several new points, or the circuit is already heavily loaded, we run a new circuit from the consumer unit instead. Heavy appliances — an electric oven, a hob, an electric shower or an EV charger — always get their own dedicated circuit.
USB sockets, outdoor points and conversions
Combined USB-A and USB-C sockets are one of the most popular swaps we do — handy in bedrooms, kitchens and home offices so you can charge without a plug adaptor. Outdoors, we fit weatherproof IP-rated sockets on an RCD-protected supply for mowers, tools and seasonal lights. Garage, loft and outbuilding conversions usually need a small consumer unit or a dedicated sub-main, which we size for lighting, sockets and any heating.
Is it notifiable? And making good
Adding a socket to an existing circuit outside a kitchen or bathroom is not notifiable under Part P, but we still test it and issue a Minor Works Certificate. A brand-new circuit, or any socket work in a bathroom, is notifiable — as registered electricians we certify and notify it.
