What's involved
A qualified engineer inspects and tests every circuit, the consumer unit, earthing and bonding, RCD protection and accessible wiring, then issues a coded report (C1/C2/C3/FI) with a Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory outcome and a costed schedule of any remedial work.
- Coded to BS 7671: C1 (danger present), C2 (potentially dangerous) and FI (further investigation) make a report Unsatisfactory; C3 is advisory only.
- Owner-occupied homes are recommended every 10 years; private-rented homes are legally required every 5 years under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.
- We can complete any remedial work and re-issue a Satisfactory certificate — one contractor from inspection to compliance.

How often do I need an EICR?
Owner-occupied homes are recommended every 10 years, rented homes are legally required every 5 years or at change of tenancy, and commercial premises typically every 5 years.
How long does an EICR take?
A typical 3-bed Billericay home takes around 2–4 hours. Larger or commercial properties with more circuits take longer, and we'll give you a time estimate when we book.
What do the C1, C2 and C3 codes mean?
C1 means danger present (immediate risk), C2 means potentially dangerous, C3 is an improvement recommendation. Any C1 or C2 makes the report Unsatisfactory and needs remedial work; C3 is advisory only.
What happens if my report comes back unsatisfactory?
We give you a clear, itemised quote for the remedial work, carry it out, then re-test and issue a Satisfactory certificate. There's no obligation to have us do the remedials.
Will the power need to be off during the test?
Yes, briefly and circuit by circuit, as part of the tests requires the supply isolated. We work around you to keep disruption to a minimum.
